The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) guarantees most employees the right to take leave for their own or their family member’s serious health condition without fear of retaliation.  To be eligible to take protected leave under the FMLA, you must:

(1) have worked for your current employer for at least one year;

(2) have worked at least 1,250 hours in the year preceding your leave (about 24 hours per week); and

(3) work for an employer which employs at least 50 employees within 75 miles of your job site.
